7 Traits of High Professional and Personal Performance

July 4, 2017

"In Search of Excellence, we’re still searching—and, just maybe, getting closer to answers." - Julia Kirby

We can define high professional and personal performance as the ability to function with high quality standard to achieve your goals.

Check out 7 signs that you have High Professional and Personal Performance:

1. You value your health and well-being

Your habits determine your performance. In order to achieve good performance you need to feel good physically and mentally. Do you get enough sleep? Does your diet give you energy for your daily routine? Do you practice a physical activity? Do you have a way to keep your mind in balance?

The more you take care of your well-being, the greater your ability to remain at a high level performance.

2. You know yourself and you know how you work

The more you know yourself and how you react to each situation, the better your performance. Do you identify what you feel? Do you consider how you feel when you make decision? Do you have confidence in yourself? Do you know what you can or can’t do? What makes you happy?

Thinking about obtaining answers to these questions is very relevant to your emotional balance. "The ability to perceive emotions; understand emotions; and effectively regulate emotions to promote intellectual and emotional growth." This is the definition of Emotional Intelligence by Mayer and Salovey, 1997.

3. You are dedicated to learning and innovating

Like everything in the Universe, we are constantly evolving. Being in touch with new ideas and ways of acting brings light to issues without solution previously. Do you take responsibility for your learning? How do you keep up-to-date?

Knowledge transforms limitations into opportunities for growth and innovation. Investing time to obtain new information is a away of being more assertive when you act.

4. You are proactive

Every day we come across some pleasant situations, but many are challenging. Do you take initiative? Do you try to find new ways to solve problems? Do you prevent problems recurrence?

On the other hand, when we expect things to go wrong so that something or someone will force us to act, we are being reactive. Failure to act can worsen situations and cause despair and stress. So, being proactive makes it possible to see problems as opportunities for improvement. It is a positive and useful way of looking at our day-to-day.

5. You usually plan and prioritize

Do any of these lines sound familiar?

"I have so much to do that I don’t know where to start.”

"That's very important to me. One day, I'll do it.

"So much..." or "One day..." Lack of definition hampers action. When we define our goals and take responsibility for achieving them, we can achieve more. Visualizing, thinking, writing and planning in the long, medium and short term enables more predictability and better choices.

Establish what are the most important things. Make a to-do list and check it daily. However, the harsh reality is that we're going to die with things to do on our list. What will really bring benefit to you? This means that sometimes you will have to say "No."

6. You Are Productive

After the planning phase, it is relevant to ask how much of your plans you put into action. We run the risk of planning without executing. People with high performance level put their projects into practice and get results.

7. You seek Effective Feedback

After all the considerations that led you to act, are you still checking to see if your actions have accomplished goals in a satisfactory way?

Searching for Effective Feedback is the ability to obtain information that helps you realize what works and what doesn’t work. After that, you just need to adjust the course and go.

So, how was your self-assessment? Do you have High Professional and Personal Performance? It is always time to acquire new habits and obtain better performance in your personal and professional life. Everything can be better, lighter and you can always be happier.
